Privacy
Effective October 4, 2026. sailbrief is a free, unofficial site run by one person (Ilian Georgiev). There are no accounts, no ads, and no cookies, and nothing is sold.
What is recorded
- Every request to this site: your IP address; the country, region, and city Cloudflare derives from it; your browser's User-Agent and a summary of it (phone or desktop, operating system, browser); the page and its address, including the sheet choices in it (date, window, points, stations, boat); the referring page; the response code; and how long it took.
- What you do on the map and sheet pages: markers you select, points you add, the map background you choose, building and printing a sheet, screen size, and script errors. These carry a random ID that lasts for one browser tab, so one visit's steps can be put together. It is kept in your browser's session storage, not a cookie.
- Each sheet built: a copy of the sheet (its inputs and the forecast numbers on it), so a reported problem can be checked against what you saw.
Your choices on the map (date, points, base map) are also remembered in your own browser's local storage, for your next visit. They are not sent anywhere else.

To keep the site running, spot abuse and unusual traffic, check reported problems, and see how the site is used.
How long
All of the above is kept indefinitely. It is stored on the operator's own computer and is not shared, except where the law requires.
Other services your browser talks to
- Cloudflare carries all traffic to this site (Cloudflare's privacy policy applies).
- Map tiles and the map library load straight from Esri, OpenStreetMap, OpenSeaMap, NOAA, and cdnjs (Cloudflare), which see your IP address and this site's address.
- Feedback goes through a Google Form; Google's privacy policy applies. It fills in which sheet you were looking at. Your email address is optional; leave it blank to stay anonymous.
The site does no cross-site tracking, so browser "Do Not Track" signals do not change what it does.
